Homeschooling.....ME? (and WFW, too!)

Drum roll please......ba ba ba ba ba BAAA........

We are HOMESCHOOLING this year!

Some of you may know this....for others, I am sure it is a SHOCK!

But, we are so THANKFUL for all of your prayers....please continue to pray for our family as we begin this new adventure!

Why, you may ask?

There are so many reasons (please come back later this week to read all about them), but the MAIN reason was that God was pulling at my heartstrings and using this verse:

"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up......" Deuteronomy 11:18-19

Now don't mistake me....I don't believe EVERY Christian family must homeschool, but for our family, the choice became so clear. I really need to spend more time with my kids. I had been struggling with the "teaching.....when you sit at home (WHEN?????is that????)....the lying down and getting up." For us, in our busy lifestyle, with 5 kids, God placed this desire in my heart to take a more "serious" role in the teaching. MORE details to follow, I promise!

And, we decided NOT to homeschool Andrew, our oldest (at least this year) as he is entering high school. So, all prayers are appreciated for HIM as well!

For now, we are standing on His Word, following His lead, and expecting HIM to do GREAT things this school year!

Please check out the Cafe for more great inspiration and WFW!

Oh Tracy!!! I'm excited for you! It is a big leap. I know! When following God's lead, you know He'll hook you up.

I'll be praying with and for you as you and your family start this journey.

This will be our 4th full year (and will be HSing all 6 this Fall).

I'm sure that you have all of your ducks in a row, but if you ever need an encouraging word, I'm your girl.

God bless you!

Kela

I read the Pioneer women's Blog and she homeschools and said some interesting things about it the other day.
It is odd but as an ex teacher I used to be against it.......now I think, had I been able to have children, I would think rather differently about it. Especially in today's world. Go girl go.

Tracy,

The verse you posted is the one that broke the stronghold in my life that kept me from home schooling my children in their early years. You see, I didn't have any problem teaching them when we sat at home, or when we were about to lie down or get up, I was doing that even with the kids in public school. Then one day, as if the ink on the page was written in BOLD FACE TYPE AND ALL CAPS... I read that middle part...WHEN YOU WALK ALONG THE ROAD...and I the Lord dropped on my heart, "your children walk along the road with someone else all day long...are they teaching what I want them to learn??"...and I thought, Oh my God, forgive me... teach me to teach them, that they may know and learn what it is YOU want them to learn, not what our government system wants them to learn.

Sure over the years there has been lots of the book learning going on here in our home school...but there has been lots more bible, Christian Character and Moral training going on than would EVER have happened in public school...and there is a whole lot less retraining going on .... So...while this is still the road less traveled for me...and can be as stressful as it is rewarding, I know, this is God's plan for me and my children and it is a plan that is for good and not for evil, and it will provide for a hope and a future! God's blessing as you begin!
